Water-based Woodblock Printing

Different from traditional western methods of woodblock printing, this Japanese technique is a water-based application. There is no need for solvents as the ink is not oil-based and the range of ink colors is only limited to your access to pigments. Highly portable, all the supplies needed to carve and print a work of art can be packed into a knapsack. Students will recieve a set of their own tools and learn the techniques of this amazing process while carving and printing their own the practice image. For learning purposes, Students will be introduced to this method by creating a print in the Sumizuri-e 墨摺り絵 style of printing meaning that we will be using sumi ink exclusively. Come learn this incredibly versatile water-based print practice that can be packed into a travel bag, set up on the go, and cleans up with just water.
