About the event
Before the intricately beautiful Chiyogami papers of Japan were screen-printed en masse, they employed the help of woodblock printers to create these lovely patterned papers. These mesmerizing tessellations mimicked the beauty of the Yuzen (kimono fabric) patterns of Japan. Come and experience the production of block printed patterned papers and learn techniques and process behind the magic. Students will print their own sheets of decorative chiyogami from hand-carved wooden blocks created by teacher Lana Lambert. There will be a presentation of how these papers were developed in Japan and of ways to create your own patterns both digitally and from other materials besides wood. Students will leave with their own hand-printed papers ready to add to their supply for making books, boxes, and other surface or craft applications.
